We call ourselves a business, but it really feels more like a family. We all live, work, and play in Asheville, because the beautiful mountains and vibrant community spoke to our souls.
We are committed to preparing and serving truly delicious and satisfying baked goods. We use vintage recipes and real, wholesome ingredients to prepare everything we make. Our treats are either low sugar or sweetened with natural sugars such as honey or maple syrup. And we promise there are NEVER any artificial ingredients or colors hiding in our products.
We aim to take care of the people around us—whether that be our employees or our valued customers. We also take our responsibility to preserving the planet seriously. Most of our furnishings in the Bakehouse are repurposed, and we strive to be eco-friendly by reducing consumer waste.
We do things a little bit differently here by paying attention to the details that matter. We believe it makes all the difference in the world. We think you’ll agree, too.
Asheville’s sense of community, diversity, and progressive nature drew Jenny to the mountains. She attended the Culinary School of Washington, D.C. and many additional speciality classes to refine her skill as a pastry chef. A fan of vintage recipes, Jenny’s food philosophy centers around local and seasonal ingredients. She works hard to create treats that are familiar, laced with a sense of sweet nostalgia, and wholesome. As a master of her craft, she believes baking is a form of spiritual exercise. When she’s not in the North Star Bakehouse kitchen, you can find her reading her favorite book, Outstanding in the Field: A Farm to Table Cookbook, or brushing up on her campfire cooking skills.
Every day in Asheville is like a gift to Mary. She loves waking up surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Originally drawn to Asheville for the sense of community it imparts, she is the bakery’s devoted general manager. Mary can be found in the back handling office duties, behind the counter greeting customers, or in the dining area tidying up. She loves the team spirit and camaraderie of North Star Bakehouse and is truly invested in the success of the business.
Billy’s magical hand at making the best cups of coffee in West Asheville is the result of years of training. He studied under a professional barista in a specialty coffee shop in San Francisco before his passion for the perfect brew led him to work on a soil-to-cup coffee farm in Hawaii. His favorite things about working at North Star Bakehouse are the close-knit team and the fact that he is surrounded by tasty goodies on a daily basis.
